Ascent helps individuals and families with $75 million or more in net worth focus on the impact of their wealth. As a boutique within U.S. Bank Ascent delivers a fully-integrated service model, combined with a high-touch approach via a regional team dedicated to a limited number of clients.

Ascent provides comprehensive, integrated services clients can use to build a unified family team that moves as one to create their desired lifestyle and legacy both now and decades from now. How are your client teams structured to deliver services to their clients?: 

Working side-by-side with clients, their family, and with their trusted advisors, Ascent addresses both the qualitative and quantitative dimensions of multi-generational wealth. The Ascent team is comprised of professionals skilled in all aspects of wealth management including wealth dynamic specialists with expertise in the use of scientifically based tools that enhance communication and help families build consensus around complicated issues. Each Ascent team serves a limited number of families, so families are assured of the personal attention they require. Because the team has no competing interests, it acts solely in the client's interest.

How would you describe your ideal client?: 

Ascent focuses on clients and families with significant wealth who not only want to maximize their impact today, preserve and protect their assets and leave a lasting legacy. Our ideal clients include: 1) business owners who are or will be transferring their business wealth 2) beneficiaries receiving wealth from the transition of the business 3) individuals and families with multi-generational wealth who view themselves as stewards; they want to have a lasting impact and they have a feeling of responsibility for the greater good 4) C-suite executives 5) single family offices 6) clients who have many advisors yet are seeking one point of contact to oversee all aspects of their multi-generational wealth 7) private family foundations.

The top three characteristics that distinguish Ascent are: One team of multi-disciplinary experts working collectively for every client; Boutique experience backed by the resources of U.S. Bank; A service culture that results in deeply personal attention focused on multi-generational family wealth and the possibilities it creates for the family.

What communication methods have you used with your clients?: 

Because each family’s wealth profile and aspirations are unique, each client’s experience will be unique as well. Listening first, last, and always – we never assume we know what’s best for each family. Communication – methods of communication are frequent and completely customized for clients and their families. These communications can be as often as daily or quarterly and may be conducted via telephone calls, e-mail, meetings, virtual and in person and social engagements – as directed and expected by clients.

What formal and informal client education programs does your company provide?: 

Similar to our communication strategy, our education programs are completely customized to individual clients’ and their families’ needs. Education programs are offered formally and informally in seminars, single- and multi-family meetings, multi-generational family retreats and held virtually as needed. Topics of education range from discussions about family vision and values and family talent identification, which would prepare an individual for family foundation business, to quantitative subjects, such as cutting edge investment opportunities.

How do you approach risk analysis for your clients?: 

The Ascent team uses a proactive, structured approach and leverages a number of risk analytic tools to identify unique individual and family risks associated with the family’s goals and objectives. Our approach to risk analysis is part of the client experience process which follows a systematic approach to gather, analyze, and understand complex information. The Ascent team then prioritizes risks based on likelihood of occurrence and potential impact, and creates mitigation strategies for the top-priority risks.

What are the credentials and qualifications of your firm management and staff?: 

The Ascent team comprises professionals in all aspects of wealth management with tremendous depth and many years of experience. Most of the senior management and professionals have Ph.D., M.B.A. and J.D. degrees, and hold L.L.M. in taxation and accounting; as well as CFP, CFA, AIMA and CPA designations. In addition, each regional team also includes leadership and legacy consultants who are skilled in the use of scientifically based tools that may enhance communication and help families build consensus around complicated issues.

What is your firm's expertise with alternative investments?: 

U. S. Bank is tenured in its experience of investing in alternative investments - this includes Real Estate, Private Equity and Hedge Funds. Ascent's approach to incorporating alternative investments in a portfolio is based on its clients' needs for liquidity, income, wealth expansion and social impact (philanthropic endeavors). Various types of alternative investments have different return and risk characteristics. By combining different alternative investments with the public market holdings of its clients, Ascent can provide clients with a variety of portfolios with different return and risk profiles. Ascent's expertise in the alternatives space is deep with experience in allocating capital to alternative investments for institutions (public funds, corporate funds, endowment & foundations) and individuals of significant wealth. Ascent team has invested in most all type of strategies within Real Estate, Private Equity and Hedge Funds. The manager universe it selects from is robust and covers all types of strategies offered by both emerging and developed managers. One of the primary sources used by Ascent is a manager database that has current information on more than a 1000 hedge funds. In addition to spending a significant amount of its time on researching both prospective and current manager relationships, Ascent team utilizes contacts in the alternatives space developed over several years. Contacts such as primary capital introduction teams provide Ascent research on trends in the hedge fund space, governance and regulatory issues, and information on prospective managers and current manager relationships. Using a combination of technology and a regular dialogue with people in the alternatives space is critical to providing the Ascent clients the best possible alternative investment opportunities.
