Alan Witt, CPA, JD, PFS has been a director at ORBA, one of Chicago’s largest accounting firms, since 1983 and has held positions as head of the tax department and managing director of the firm. Alan has cultivated expertise in many areas, including:

  • High net worth advisory and family office counseling
  • Estate and trust planning
  • Real estate acquisition, disposition and operation
  • Mergers and acquisition structuring, negotiating and tax reduction strategies
  • Profit improvement consulting for manufacturers and distribution companies

Alan’s extensive background in estate planning, income tax strategies and finance enables him to assist ultra-high net worth families and family offices in all phases of their business and family matters. Alan’s long-term client relationships has him involved in every step of the process. He is their trusted adviser, supporting their multi-generational objectives while attending to their tax and overall financial needs.


He is known for his drive to explore new ideas, find answers, minimize taxes and help clients close transactions. He truly enjoys the challenge of finding a solution where others cannot. For Alan, that often involves seeing the problem from multiple angles to understand each stakeholders’ unique concerns and opportunities.

His ability to understand different perspectives is why Alan is often called on to advise on business succession and wealth transfer issues. He is able to convey the complexities of these topics to clients by taking into account their age, financial sophistication, skill set and motivations.


Throughout his career, Alan has written frequently for several publications and has given seminars on tax and personal financial topics. He was also a part-time adjunct professor for two law schools.
