In an era of shrinking aid and shifting power, IDP Foundation has reimagined how philanthropy can drive sustainable impact. • Generosity and the Rising Gen: Supporting Our Next-Gen Philanthropists with Arabella Advisors
The rising generations often see the world differently, and they are becoming more vocal about what they value and how they want to use wealth to create impact. Family dynamics are shifting, sometimes in ways that can be tricky to navigate, particularly in a time of significant polarization in society. In the midst of these changes, families strive for meaning, action, and collaboration. For family offices tasked with managing all of this alone, it can feel overwhelming. This session will build upon current research being conducted by Arabella Advisors on rising generation donors and the barriers they find themselves facing to efficiently and effectively engage in philanthropy. Through stories of real families, this session will highlight solutions to help rising generation donors unlock their full potential and support them to act, instead of react through their family values.

Betsy Erickson, Managing Director, Co-Head of Family and Individual Services, Arabella Advisors

    • Not Letting the Past Hold You Back: A Family’s Journey to Launch an Enduring Multi-Generational Legacy Mindset
The Clayton Family dynamics look very different today. After more than a dozen years marked by conflict and discord, the Family embarked on a process to repair communication, focus on cohesion, and build alignment to carry the legacy forward. Led by Patriarch, Jim Clayton (91) and Family Office President, Mark Freeman, the Steering Committee coordinated a thoughtful series of communication and emotional intelligence programming. Now, with strengthened relationships and a shared vision, the four-generation Clayton Family is implementing a co-designed governance framework and legacy plan. Hear from Jim and Mark about the process that took the Family from conflict to cohesion.

Owning the AI Future: Capital Allocation & Cultural Reinvention
AI is obviously a massive secular trend. Perhaps the greatest innovation in the history of humanity. How can family office investors cut through the clutter, deconstruct what’s actually going on, and find outsized opportunities on the public and private side? Further, how can families and family office leaders create their own AI-native organization and culture, embrace practical applications to maximize efficiency, and stay abreast of this dynamic space and separate signal from noise? HBS Professor and Flybridge General Partner Jeff Bussgang, author of a recent book on AI, will provide a few answers to these critical questions.

Polarities: Moving From the Limitations of “Either/Or” to the Power of “Both/And”
The world in which we live is tumultuous and increasingly polarized. It is timely and essential for leaders at every level to see conflicting perspectives and contrasting value systems as opportunities, not obstacles. That is why we need to understand and leverage Polarities.

The human brain knows how to make choices. We make hundreds of them every day. Some are easy: "Which route should I take to work today?" Others are harder: "Is it more important to attend this work event or my daughter's soccer game?" Deciding what to do requires "Either / Or" thinking, an essential skill that allows us to take action and not feel paralyzed by indecision.

Either / Or thinking works well most of the time. It falls short when faced with a Polarity. Polarities exist where a "Both / And" mindset is necessary to thrive. Humans require both activity and rest to be productive. Family offices depend on both continuity and change for effective succession planning. These scenarios require "Both / And" thinking because they involve a special kind of opposites, where the path to success requires benefits of both. Choosing only one will produce repeated conflict or failure. Polarities teach us to know when to shift from the Either / Or thinking our brains instinctively prefer to a Both / And mindset. Polarities are all around us — we just haven't been trained to spot them, until now.

Attending this session will enhance your leadership potential and ability to unlock the increasingly complex challenges we face both personally and professionally.
