Stepping in Without Overstepping: Managing Roles and Boundaries When a Family Member is in Crisis

Overview

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration's (SAMHSA's) National Survey on Drug Use and Health in 2006, 23.6 million persons aged 12 or older needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol abuse problem (9.6 percent of the persons aged 12 or older).

Most families face these issues at one time or another – but for high net worth family members, personal problems come with an additional layer of risks to the family enterprise. How can family office staff and family advisors provide appropriate support and management on behalf of a family member in crisis?

This program sheds light on the risks faced by the family system, and by professionals serving the family, in such situations. Through discussion and illustrative cases, participants learn how they can implement evidence-based practices to help the family member in crisis, and promote successful recovery for the family system (including businesses, trusts and shared resources).
